The Missing Piece
Our fast-paced, constantly-connected world has detrimental effects on health and wellness. Women feel overwhelmed and stressed and we are constantly inundated with new information, responsibilities, and obligations. Finding time for ourselves amidst the chaos is one of life’s most significant challenges.
Spirituality arrives from a connection with self, others, and the world around you as you search for the meaning of YOUR life. Spiritual practices are a beneficial and beautiful aspect of unlocking your wellness.
If it is not already an established practice, exploration of spiritual practices is not likely the first piece of your wellness puzzle to engage. However, if you have already begun exploring your spiritual connections and gifts, experiencing new modalities is a powerful addition to your self-care toolbox!
The Peace Within
Found in almost every community, meditation, yoga, energy healing, mindfulness, and prayer are popular choices. Exploration of these modalities opens the mind and the spirit and taps into personal inner peace. The beautiful thing for women is that spiritual practices are accessible at any time, any place, and in any situation. Having a comfortable spiritual practice promotes peace and grounding whenever and wherever that is needed.
Mind-Body Practices
Meditation
Meditation is one of the most popular spiritual practices among women today. You have likely already added it to your repertoire! It quiets the mind, eases worries and stressors, and promotes inner stillness. It has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression levels, promote increased concentration and focus, and boost creativity. Meditation also encourages positive self-talk and greater self-awareness which helps us make better decisions in life. The ease of access is one reason so many women use this self-regulating practice in today’s busy world!
Yoga
Yoga is a spiritual and physical practice. This practice improves our physical and mental health and deepens our spiritual connection. Yoga connects mind and body and opens exploration of different aspects of ourselves. It reduces stress and anxiety, increases strength and flexibility, and promotes general well-being. Many will shy away from yoga for fear of being out of shape, or not having the strength or confidence to participate. Consider trying a beginner’s class with a heart-centered instructor. Fear should not be a barrier to your wellness; find supports who motivate and encourage you to bring yourself into the space of healing.
Energy Healing
Energy healing channels positive energy into the body to help balance chakras, clear energetic blockages, and restore balance within the body. This practice promotes overall wellness by targeting specific physical or emotional issues. Once you have already established some basic mind-body practices, exploring more advanced and unfamiliar modalities like tapping, reiki, and ayurveda may be just the thing you need to boost your spiritual connection.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness allows women to become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, sensations, and surroundings. These practices improve concentration, stress and anxiety reduction, better decision-making skills, and improve sleep quality. They connect you deeply within yourself and allow the mind and body to reach a flow state; the state of being so engaged with an activity or thought that time slips away. The beautiful thing about mindfulness is that it compliments any activity and costs nothing.
Prayer
Finally, prayer is a powerful spiritual practice that encourages divine connection. Used to seek guidance in life and feel inner peace, prayer is used in healing, resolving conflicts, seeking direction in difficult decisions, and more. Prayer takes any form that is supported by your personal religious beliefs. If you are not connected to one religion, explore the prayer practices of many beliefs and find one that attracts you to your higher power.
Explore More
In addition to these more popular modalities, you may find comfort in some more niche areas of self-actualizing practice. Aromatherapy, crystal therapy, inner child work, somatic therapy, art, and music therapy may be surprise additions to your self-care toolbox. I discussed these topics with experts in their field. Even as a complete newbie, I found comforting ideas within each topic!
Spirituality is a key component to wellness and is one that should be explored as part of your wellness plan. You don’t have to try everything, but I suggest trying a few different modalities that align with your belief system. Choose practices that intrigue you and find out which ones enhance your spiritual needs and beliefs. We can all use a bit of grounding in our life!
