Self-Care in Your Busy Life
The responsibilities of modern life can be absolutely overwheming. From work to family commitments, we often find it hard to find time for ourselves, and in general, self-care is the first thing we cancel. The benefits of self-care are undeniable. Not only does it help us stay healthy, but it also boosts our productivity and overall wellbeing, so taking care of our physical and mental health should always remain a priority, however busy we might feel. You already know this, because you really do try to fit it in!
Setting Boundaries
Setting boundaries ensures that you remain a priority and ensures you avoid becoming overwhelmed. That might mean saying no to certain tasks or limiting the amount of time you spend on activities that are not essential. Schedule time for yourself each day and make sure it is non-negotiable; make that time for yourself as important as brushing your teeth. Self-care can look different for everyone – whatever works best for you is the right choice…whether that is alone time, family time, exercise, or a nap. When it comes to self-care during hectic times, the key is to prioritize what matters most. Managing your time should start by determining which activities are essential and make sure they get done first.
Walk Before You Run!
Self care should be a high priority, not an after-thought and does not have to look like a date with yourself. Self care is more about ensuring that you are meeting your body’s most basic daily needs, including eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. So often, women forget to meet these most basic needs and their overall health suffers for it. Coffee is not a meal, and chasing your toddler is not gentle movement!
Once you have made this gentle self-care and self-love a daily habit, you can add an hour per week in which you dedicate time to a joyful experience. Whether it’s reading a book, going for a walk, or listening to music – find an activity that helps you relax and enjoy life. And finally, once your self care is non-negotiable and as much a part of your routine as laundry and work, you can add a more grandiose gesture of self-care like a spa day, new outfit, or getaway with friends or family.
Make Yourself a Priority
Taking care of yourself can be challenging when you’re busy, but with a little bit of planning and dedication, it can also be incredibly rewarding! Prioritizing your self-care can have a positive impact on all aspects of your life. Your body and mind will thank you for making yourself important enough to take these baby steps of self love …and so will those who love you and rely on you!
